DESIGNER & FOUNDER: CLAIRE HOWESON
Penmayne of London was founded by Claire Howeson, a solicitor who left behind her career in the City to follow her passion for all things hats. Claire trained in millinery at Kensington and Chelsea College and with milliners Edwina Ibbotson and Noel Stewart before launching her own brand in 2013.
“I took up millinery as a hobby years ago and completely fell in love with it. I love the way that someone looks and behaves when they put on a hat that they feel great in; it’s incredibly empowering. The more I learnt about the industry, the more it struck me that hats as an everyday accessory needed some more attention. I believe there is a hat-wearer inside most of us and that we just needed to create a product that is beautiful, stylish and really wearable. I have lost count of the number of times people have said to me: ‘This is what I’ve been looking for for years’. Hopefully that means we are doing something right…
